TweetDeck Updates: LinkedIn Joins the Crew

December 1st, 2009 by Renee Revetta

Along with existing features like search capability, synching TweetDeck accounts and columns, the v0.32.0 update of TweetDeck added LinkedIn integration (plus previous additions: MySpace and Facebook).

Pictured is the new toolbar: “compose update,” “add column” and “quick profile” along with the new LinkedIn button for status updates.

The new version also adds Twitter lists and a “quick profile” button.  Something to look out for is the retweet options listed under the Twitter settings menu.  TweetDeck now gives you the ability to choose your RT “style” – old or new.  It also has an “always ask me” option.  The “ask me” option gives you the choice every time you RT whether you want to edit or RT in the new style.

Optimizing your Searchability with Social Media

I checked out the Vocus on-demand webinar with Brian Solis this week entitled “Distribution in the New Era of Social Media.”  Today we’re all “sources” with the power of social media distribution channels at our fingertips.  But with so many content creators and new information flooding the Internet each day, the ability to be searchable and discoverable has become increasingly important.

Utilize SEO and SMO. Although the goal is to create engaging and riveting content, what’s the bother if it isn’t discoverable?  Solis shared his opinion,

Everything starts with search.

Pump up your searchability. The more optimized the content you have, the more discoverable it is.  Solis thinks SEO and SMO are critical in new media and PR and that people will be forced to pay more attention to SMO in the future if they want their content to be found.  He said the web is, by far, still an individual experience. People start with search if they’re seeking content.

Increase your digital footprint. Luckily, there are easy ways to share content on multiple social media sites, which will increase your digital footprint.

Twitter and Facebook: Living in Harmony?

September 2nd, 2009 by Renee Revetta

The corporate trend of being registered with Facebook and Twitter seems to be growing. “A central group of players in your corporate social marketing system, need to be personally and professionally active, either on Facebook, Twitter or both,” states the Aim Clear Blog.

Here at Search-Mojo, we also use both social networks.  Recently, we utilized Twitter to share our Facebook fan page with followers.  We figured those who follow us on Twitter would be more likely to become a “fan” of our company on Facebook.  We tweeted fan page links in the past month and gained a few fans every week.  However, Twitter especially became useful for our Facebook page when we tweeted saying we were only 1 fan away from achieving 100 fans, which gave us the ability to claim our own username.  Here’s what happened:

Search Mojo Tweets

In about 10 minutes we had 4 more fans, pushing us to 103 fans.  Twitter spread the message quickly with one simple update and a few retweets.  We were finally able to claim http://www.facebook.com/SearchMojo.  Twitter led fans to Facebook in this case.  With programs like TweetDeck, HelloTXT, and multiple Twitter Applications on Facebook, the capability to link Facebook profiles and Twitter status updates has existed for a while (see “4 Ways to Manage Social Media” for more).  A new Facebook option finally allows users to be able to link Facebook pages to Twitter, as opposed to limiting it to personal profiles.

4 Ways to Manage Social Media

August 24th, 2009 by Renee Revetta

Social media tools are always evolving and updating, it’s sometimes a challenge to keep up! So to make your job a little easier, here are my reactions and reviews of four social media management tools. Some that I’ve used include Flock, Digsby, Ping.fm and TweetDeck. Here’s my take:

1. Flock

Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Opera, the dreaded IE6, why not add another browser to the table? Flock. Catherine Potts actually wrote about her reaction to it in May.

Immediately you can load in your Facebook, Twitter and Gmail accounts – and Myspace, Youtube, Flickr, Truveo, Bebo, Digg, and Yahoo! or AOL mail along with a range of media and blogging sites. With Flock you can browse the web and still easily monitor social media in a sidebar. There’s options for the sidebar that include media, e-mail, RSS, a blog editor, a photo uploader, and a neat “drag and drop” clipboard, which is awesome for collecting multiple clips of info as you browse the web. Flock has some extensions, too. One is Clikball, which is Twitter compatible. It’s an additional way to share links with followers.  Another extension is Screenshot, which is like Firefox’s Screengrab.

I found myself using Flock as a surveillance tool, and then leaving the browser to go to TweetDeck or another social media program to actually respond. Although I was impressed by the long list of social network options, I wish it included LinkedIn. The next tool does include LinkedIn and isn’t a browser, but more like an Instant Messaging program.
