How to tame the Panda: ways you can fend off panda-related drops.

First, some background on what’s changed recently:
May day update- this is an algorithm change in Google looking for higher quality site to surface for long tail queries.

Caffeine- caffeine revamped the entire indexing system to make it even easier for engineers to add signals.  Basically increased the number of ranking signals.

As they crawled the web faster and faster, they found a lot of spam.

Live from Pro SEO: The New Google Search Results

Search results have changed, we must change with them.  Here are some of the new types of search results Google is showing.

First, try the local/maps/places results.  Something interesting about these results, is that they CTR does not follow the typical ranking expectations.  Some lower places results will have a better click through rates than the higher listings.  Local business center will tell you how many times you were displayed in a result.  This will also show you your potential CTR.  Make sure your CTR is what you want it yo be.

Live from Pro SEO Seminar in Boston

On this rainy Monday morning, I have traveled to Boston and wound up near Harvard University for the Pro SEO Seminar (#ProSEO).  In a large amphitheater, many SEO professionals have gathered to hear presentations about everything from taming the panda update, link building and data analysis, to explaining to management the importance of creating and growing search budgets in your organization.  I’ll be live blogging this two-day event, and am excited to get started!  Now, to find more coffee…  Stay tuned!

Instead of having each member of the panel give a presentation, they opened the floor for a two-way informal discussion. They gave their insights on how to keep up with the ever changing landscape that is SEO.
