Holiday Optimization for PPC: Prep & Strategy

<< by Heidi Kramer on October 8th, 2013

shopping online 430 Holiday Optimization for PPC: Prep & StrategyIt may seem a little early to be thinking about the holiday season. I know when I walk into a retail store at the beginning of October and they’re already showcasing holiday decorations that involve colorful turkeys and that jolly, rosy-cheeked gentleman that goes by the name Santa Claus, I want to scoff and walk away. However, I have to admit that I usually find myself perusing the aisles before moving on to what I actually walked in to the store for.

Based on a report by RSR Research, 28% of brands will start their holiday marketing on October 1st or earlier, and according to Bing, 22.1% of consumers start their holiday shopping in October. Online holiday sales are growing every year, and 2013 is no different. Don’t put off your online advertising like you do your gift shopping – get started today and prepare your PPC accounts for a stellar 2013 holiday season.

WEBINAR: Getting the Most Value from Google Analytics

<< by Kari Rippetoe on September 4th, 2013

analytics WEBINAR: Getting the Most Value from Google AnalyticsGoogle is constantly making updates to its search algorithms, and it can be a challenge to keep up with it all. And, like the search engine, there are pretty frequent updates to Google Analytics as well. Many marketers rely on it to provide them with the information needed to measure their marketing efforts and make informed, data-driven decisions – so it’s imperative that they know how to use Google Analytics to their advantage.

Are you measuring the right things?

Firstly, take stock of what you’re currently measuring and compare that against your business goals. Are those metrics really giving you the information you need? Forget what you might have heard about what to measure, and think about what really matters.

Adwords Dynamic Remarketing: Advertising That Will Rock With eCommerce

<< by Scott Garrett on August 9th, 2013

I have been writing a lot lately about features in Google Analytics and Google Adwords that can benefit eCommerce websites (you can check those out here, here, and here), and this post is no different (don’t stop ’til you get enough!).

Whether you work for or own an eCommerce site, you know that increasing revenue and decreasing cost is critical to success. Thankfully, once again Google has created a service that makes it cheaper and easier to target consumers that are most likely to purchase your product; thereby, decreasing your advertising costs and hopefully increasing your revenue. I am, of course, talking about dynamic remarketing for Google Adwords, which was recently released out of beta two months ago. While Google Adwords remarketing (which allows you to exclusively advertise to people who have visited your site) certainly isn’t a new method of advertising to consumers; dynamic remarketing makes it that much easier and cost effective.

Wait, it’s Christmas already? For ecommerce marketers it is…

<< by Kari Rippetoe on July 24th, 2013

ecommerce Wait, its Christmas already? For ecommerce marketers it is...Yes, it’s that time again. The most wonderful time of the year…at least if you’re in retail and/or ecommerce. It’s the proverbial “Christmas in July,” when Santa’s elves begin planning for the biggest shopping season of the year, including the two biggest shopping days of the year for both brick & mortar stores and ecommerce websites: Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

If you’re a marketer in the retail industry and/or for an ecommerce website, then I don’t need to convince you that starting your holiday marketing strategy planning now isn’t an option – it’s a requirement. In order to get a leg up on your competitors and get a piece of the shopping mayhem that ensues post-Thanksgiving (and, let’s not kid ourselves, as early as the day after Halloween), you need to plan everything from product offerings, advertising tactics and media buys to ad creative, website updates and cross-channel strategies…and much, much more. But there may be some opportunities to get in front of consumers and stay top-of-mind during the holiday season that you may not have considered before.

The Future of Advanced Segments in Google Analytics and What It Means For E-commerce Websites

<< by Scott Garrett on July 17th, 2013

Advanced segments in Google Analytics give users great insight into the finer points of the type of traffic coming to their website.  These segments allow you to quickly separate and identify subsets of traffic with predefined and custom segments. For example, you can segment traffic based off of paid search traffic or mobile device traffic. However, Google recently announced some major changes to advanced segments that will be coming to Google Analytics in the coming months. The main take away from the announcement is that in the past, advanced segments were based off of visits, but in the future advanced segments will also be based off of user segments (behaviors and demographics). These changes will allow further insight into user behavior for all types of websites; however, I will be specifically discussing the effects that these changes will have in terms of gathering user behavior for e-commerce websites.
