If you’d like to carry over the community and conversation from your Facebook Page onto your website, you can add a “Like Box” to your site. You can choose to show your stream that includes your latest updates. By adding the Facebook box to your site, you can also alert regular site visitors that you’re active on Facebook. In my opinion, it’s a great way to help spread the word and give your site a personal touch. Here are the instructions in a few easy steps.
Step 1. You’ll need to go to the Facebook Page you’d like to create the widget for to obtain the Facebook Page ID number.
- If you have a custom URL: hover over the profile image. In the bottom of your browser window, you’ll see an 11 digit ID number at the end of the URL. Write that down for use in Step #2.
- If you don’t have a custom URL: the Facebook Page ID will appear in the URL. (It would look like this: http://www.facebook.com/pages/SearchMojo/14829235062 – the 11 digit number is what you’re looking for.)
Step 2. Go to the Facebook Developers site for their list of social plugins. There you’ll see the Facebook Like Box form. Enter the ID number you just gathered in Step 1 into the first form field.
Step 3. Adjust any other form fields as you see fit. (You can determine the width of the box, the number of connections you’d like to display, if you’d like to show the stream of your Facebook status updates, and decide if you’d like the header to appear or not.)
Step 4. Click “Get Code”
Step 5. Insert the code onto the desired page on your site. (I’d suggest your blog, your home page, and possibly your contact page depending on your industry.)
You might need to consult your web developer or webmaster to assist with updating your site for this last step. However, after implementing the “Like Box” hopefully you’ll benefit from this connection and see your community grow. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me @ReneeRevetta on Twitter.
