This past week I had the dreadful assignment of going back to Kansas for my Grandmother’s funeral. While that in itself was a terrible thing to have to do, funeral’s force relatives back together and are part reunion along with memorial to lost relatives.
Uncles, Aunts and Cousins all crowded into my parents house and it ended up being a good time to reminisce and catch-up. My cousins are all scattered across the country/world so it’s hard to get us all together. Some weren’t able to make it because of the short notice for the funeral.
My cousins are a highly varied, talented and creative bunch. So a little link love is due for their endeavors. Cousin Darren hob knobs with rock stars, movie stars, fashion models and the like. He’s a professional photographer and music video director.
Cousin Dan manages a huge 30,000 square foot Los Angeles Dance Club with a dance floor that holds 1,200. Not bad for a kid from Iowa and Minnesota.
Cousin Alisha works for a Colorado Real Estate website that drives real estate leads to realtors. They seem to be doing a nice job of leveraging technology to improve the home buying experience.
Cousin Paul works for an interactive media company that works with charitable organizations to further their causes. They use all types of media but documentary style film seems to be what they do.
Cousin Zach is a Denver renaissance man doing his thing playing bass guitar, doing computer repair for Apple and doing sound for films in Colorado with a group called Wasteland Vice Squad. Their latest one appears to be title I am a Teenage Frankenstein.
So how is all this link love a “how-to guide? All of my anchor text links are for general keywords that they would likely want to be ranked for in natural search engine results. They are all easily found by their business names, with the exception of Club Tatou (Sorry Dan) which appears to be using all Flash programming that can’t really be indexed by search engines.
So if you’re going to go to the trouble of giving someone a link on your blog or website use a keyword rather than their business name as the anchor text link. It’s good link Karma.
Links are the most valuable commodity in SEO.
