Today Democratic candidate Barack Obama added social networking to his presidential campaign website, making him the first candidate for president to launch a social network on his/her website. Score one for Barack! Way to show the young people you’re “plugged in” to technology!
I have to say I’m really enjoying watching how all of the new tech developments since the 2004 campaigns are impacting presidential candidates today. Between video cell phones catching their every move, podcasts, grassroots online promotion, and more, I’m just fascinated at how the world of the Internet-savvy is directly impacting today’s politics. The best recent example had to be in my own home state, Virginia, when George Allen lost to Jim Webb in November’s senate election after his racial remarks were quickly spread via online video.
First, Hillary announced her candidacy online, now we have social networking on presidential candidates’ websites. I can’t wait to see what comes next…
